Unique Voice

Before we get started on todays post, happy final week all.

Now, Unique Voice often refers to that of the writer, in so much as when you are writing you take great pains to develop your own unique voice. This is NOT what I mean here however. In this case I mean your characters voice.

While some authors will tell you that writing constantly in voices that have inflections or weird words such as cockney slang for the entire book, developing a voice or an accent for your character is indeed a good thing.

Words like 'Goddess', or Ban, or yeeha mudder fudger...can be peppered through your story, spoken by one or any of the others in the story you are writing. Goddess would be spoken by a witch, or someone in a matriarchal society, Ban might be spoken by someone who speaks Irish to refer to a woman, and yeeha mudder fudger...could be a war cry from any vest wearing, gun toting, bare footed ex cop.

Not every word needs to be of the language or dialect you have given your character in their creation, but one or two, placed in the right places though out your novel could be beneficial.
