Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!
Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer—aim for a dozen new people each time - and return comments. This group is all about connecting!
MAY'S QUESTION:
May 7 question - Some common fears writers share are rejection, failure, success, and lack of talent or ability. What are your greatest fears as a writer? How do you manage them?
It's difficult to manage the fear of rejection, failure, success and lack of talent or ability. I'll be blunt, it hurts to be rejected, no two ways about it, lack of talent is a constant worry, as is ability or the lack there off, that all siphons into imposter syndrome which a good many writers / authors such as myself suffer from, especially if sales are low or we have no comments on our books in good reads, the dreaded A or any place else we have advertised our books.
Success I believe is a different animal all together, that all depends on your definition of Success, is it selling loads and making tonnes of moula, or is it the act of getting a book from brain to print and seeing it out in the world, or is it simply getting your words on paper.
WHAT DOES SUCCESS ACTUALLY MEAN TO YOU?
Also I've finished editing book two, its with the Proof Reader and now I'm editing book three. So it's all go here.

I have never worried about rejection. Not because I have completed so few manuscripts, but because after working for several years in the publishing industry, I know how many venues there are for being published, and how many readers are looking for new entertainment. However, matching your ms. with the right publisher and your book with the right readers can be an immense slog. For me, success looks like finally getting a book published, and that means completing a manuscript. At which I have, so far, been unsuccessful.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteSuccess is always different for each person and how each one looks at life. So, I do my best not to compare myself with others.
Have a lovely day.

Success is writing a story I'm proud of. :-)

Success for me is getting the story on the page that is in my head on to the page, making sure it fits my vision. The rest is out of my control.
ReplyDeleteSuccess is what gives you the most satisfaction, whatever that is.
ReplyDeleteSuccess for me comes in stages. Finishing a manuscript. Getting it edited. Finding an agent. Being published. Bt the ultimate success is being on the NYTimes best selling list.
